Cargill breaks ground for vitamin E plant with Hoffman-LaRoche
Cargill and Hoffmann-La Roche today
broke ground for a natural-source vitamin E plant at Cargill's corn processing
complex.
The new plant will employ state-of-the-art technology developed by the two
companies to extract vitamin E from a co-product of soybean oil refining,
according to Scott Deeter, general manager of Cargill Nutri-Products, Inc., the
Cargill subsidiary that will manage vitamin E production.
Cargill will
operate the facility and produce natural vitamin E, while Hoffmann La-Roche
will market natural vitamin E on a global basis, Deeter said.
"Certain
synergies exist between Cargill and Hoffmann-La Roche that are most appropriate
for this alliance," said Dr. Paul Gilgen, president of Roche Vitamins and Fine
Chemicals in the United States. "Cargill is a global leader in grain and
oilseed processing. Hoffmann-La Roche is a global leader in vitamin research
and manufacturing, and a major supplier of vitamins, which currently do not
include natural-source vitamin E."
