Pilgrims ‘HerbGarden’ In The AbbeyGardens - Try Some Herbal Teas For Yourself

Moyse’s Hall Museum in Bury St Edmunds will be continuing its theme of health and medicine on Sunday 25 April, with an insightful look at the power of herbs provided by medical herbalist, Hilary Grimsdell.

Herbal remedies have been used for centuries, with plants often being steeped or boiled in water for their various properties. There has also been an increase in recent years in the number of people who are turning to alternative medicines, such as herbs.

Hilary’s lecture on herbal remedies will include discussions around the potential benefits of herbs in our diet, which herbs are suited to which ailments and which ones to avoid. There will also be the opportunity to learn how to identify different herbs with a walk in the Pilgrims ‘HerbGarden’ in the AbbeyGardens and try some herbal teas for yourself.

Gill Hawkins, Assistant Manager at Moyse’s HallMuseum said:

Our medical display currently shows items from one of the town’s oldest shops, Health Foods and Herbs, which closed in 1993, through to pestle and mortars which would have been used to make various herbal mixtures. We also have various information sheets supplied by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society on drug preparation, including those derived from plants.
