Get shake it up with creatine!

Creatine is a naturally created and is normally ingested through the foods we eat. Most of the creatine is stored in our skeletal muscles, but traces are also found in the heart and brain. Athletes use a synthetic version of the substance to increase muscle energy levels.

Creatine monohydrate is the most popular version of the supplement since the body, compared to other preparations, easily absorbs it. When levels of the supplement in the muscle tissue reach approximately 20%, there is a noticeable improvement in performance. Eating other sources of skeletal muscle such as meat and fish all increase the supplement levels, but the amounts eaten are about 2-3 Lbs of raw meat compared to 5 grams of the synthetic.

Not everyone responds ot creatine treatment. People with naturally high levels are less responsive as are the elderly and children. Some other risks involved are weight gain and dehydration, so if you are supplementing you diet, be sure to drink more water then usual while exercising. It has been reported however that cholesterol levels may actually improve.
