Rough it up with fiber!

Fiber has always been an important part of any diet. Fiber helps combat such things as high cholesterol levels, heart disease, & constipation, but what exactly is it? Where does it come from and how exactly is it helpful to the healthy lifestyle?

Basically, there are two types of fiber; soluble and insoluble. These refer to carbohydrates that are present in all foods we eat. Depending on our intake of these types of carbohydrates, will determine how it affects us and the health benefits from each.

Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death among people in North America. Dietary fiber is the number one source for lowering the risk of this awful disease. It has also been linked to lowering the risk of diabetes and constipation, making it one of the most important products in your diet. Good sources to find it are the many grains and cereals, as well as raw fruits and vegetables.
